We all know that things can get a bit hectic – especially around the holidays. Balancing work, family, friends, and personal obligations combined with added holiday shopping, travel, events or family upheaval can be a lot on your plate! So, how can you stay organized during the busy holiday season – and in your life, in general? We’ve prepared a few tips for you to organize your hectic life successfully:
- Use lists. Lists are for more than just the “naughty and nice.” Organize your schedule with a to-do list or a planner. Use sticky notes or color-coding items to enhance your organization even more! I personally like to prioritize by dates and significance.
- Make time for yourself. Between baking dozens of cookies, wrapping presents, and visiting the in-laws, there is more going on in your life during the holidays. While it’s nice to accomplish these items and check them off of your list, don’t forget to also make some time for yourself. It may be as simple as a twenty-minute walk outside or a delicious cup of hot chocolate at home – but it can help you feel refreshed and ready to tackle the next item on your list!
- Don’t overcommit. Although you may want to volunteer to help, sometimes you need to say “no.” Try not to overcommit – especially if you are feeling overwhelmed. It can really throw off your day if you feel that you are just being pushed from project to project without having the time to complete things well.
- Focus on what NEEDS to be done. Prioritize tasks and complete what needs to get done first – not just want you want to get done. And remember, make sure that what you are doing makes YOU happy!
While stress may never be completely eliminated, using these tips can help to balance all the things that life throws your way.
