When it comes to giving back to the community, there are a variety of opportunities. Even a small gesture can have a big impact. Here are some options:
Donating
Donate money, gently-used clothing, food, or anything that someone may find useful. Donations may be things that you previously owned or that you purchased new for a person or organization that you want to support. For those truly in need, anything helps and will be appreciated. Donating is a great way to give back to the community.
Philanthropy
Choosing to support a specific organization with monetary gifts or the donation of your time is always a great option. The efforts of philanthropic organizations range from helping animals to ending homelessness. Your support for any of these organizations will have an impact on the community.
Fundraising
Instead of giving from your personal finances, you could help raise money for an organization that helps those in need. For example, the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign around the holidays is a fundraiser that just asks you to volunteer your time (even one hour is good place to start!) and it helps attract attention to their kettles and those who can donate.
Volunteering
Volunteering is a great opportunity for those who want to be hands-on and help. Volunteering can be as easy as serving food in a shelter, or cleaning up the side of a road. Both do wonders for the community.
Disaster Relief
When communities come together to help one another in a time of crisis, it truly shows how anyone and everyone can step in and make a difference. This is a very gratifying experience. There is no way to know when a disaster will strike, and those who experience it are grateful for the assistance from others.
Whatever you do for your community, it is appreciated by someone. Every opportunity is another chance to make someone’s day.
